Summary:

 FlexDecks, Inc. is a pioneer and leader in the design and manufacture of innovative, modular maintenance platforms for the most technologically advanced military aircrafts in the world. The Engineering and Design department plays a major role in every step of the production process including sales, design, fabrication, assembly and installation.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work with a team of designers, engineers, and project managers to produce the engineering documents required for sales and fabrication of our platform-based fall protection systems. The structural components are primarily framed from structural aluminum extrusions. The decks can typically be raised or lowered using mechanical jacks and are typically mobile. These decks are primarily used to maintain aircraft and other equipment at tall heights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for over-all design of projects including analysis, design and detailing of members, bolted connections, welded connections, plate and frame design, mechanical lifting systems and low-pressure air distribution systems.
  • Reviews project specifications for accuracy and consistency with design codes.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications.
  • Coordinates with drafting and reviews drawings for compliance with the design.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  • Ensures design/engineering component of product technical data package is complete.
  • Maintains product compliance and company reputation by complying with OSHA and ANSI regulations.
  • Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by researching customer requirements; researching and testing fabrication, assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from fabrication/assembly personnel as well as customers.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Assists designers in developing the mechanical/structural design of products using SolidWorks.
  • Provides feedback to designers on customer problems and needs.
  • Conducts research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of products.
  • Recommends design modifications to eliminate product malfunctions, inefficiencies and/or to improve manufacturability.
  • Monitors all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication and operation of product designs in order to improve manufacturability.
  • Prepares design/engineering Basis of Estimates (BOEs) in support of bids and proposals.
  • Assists in the development and refinement of requirements for product development projects.
  • Designs test methods and procedures for product verification testing as required.
  • Assures product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly and installation processes.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Works closely with other departments within the Company to identify and resolve problems and suggests alternatives when necessary.
  • Performance of other tasks, as directed.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Aluminum Association’s Specifications for Aluminum Structures and the structural welding code – Aluminum AWS D1.2.
  • Must have the ability to properly interpret mechanical, structural, low pressure gas, electrical and other project drawings.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills in terms of general communications as well as technical ideas, concepts and details.
  • Must have strong knowledge of fabrication equipment and CNC machines including, but not limited to – welding machines, CNC and manual vertical milling machines (VMC), lathes, plasma tables, water jet tables, punches (Ironworker), CNC beam cutting machines.
  • Qualified in the use of general structural engineering programs.
  • Must have advanced proficiency in modeling, drawing creation and FEA using SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be creative and highly innovative.
  • Solid planning and organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.

  • Position, though usually within the confines of an enclosed office building, requires work in an open machine and fabrication shop production area.  Must have the ability to walk long distances and ascend/descend stairs within a noisy shop environment with fluctuating temperatures/humidity.  Personal Protection Equipment is required in all fabrication shop areas.

Beneficial Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:  

  • Competence in or familiarity with AISI specifications for cold-formed steel.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and D1.6 Standards and Specifications.

Education and Experience: 

  • Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university having an accredited engineering degree program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Compensation based on experience. Range $55,000 – $70,000 per year.
  • Must be capable of passing a Background Check in order to gain access to US Government facilities.

The CNC Machinist position will maintain, service and operate CNC Vertical Milling (VMC) equipment.  As part of the Fabrication Team, this position plays an important part in producing maintenance platform components, while ensuring proper form, fit and function of an overall quality product.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required 

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle raw material, operate material handling equipment, and load material onto VMC equipment.
  • Skill required to operate, calibrate, and adjust mechanical aspects of VMC equipment as needed.
  • Skill required to perform preventative maintenance on VMC equipment:
    • Removing debris and chip byproducts.
    • Inspect and replace parts associated with equipment clamps and fixtures.
    • Understand end mill and drill bit types, materials, coatings, etc.
    • Ability to choose best tooling for a job; quickly change tooling, manage different setups, and track/improve tool life.
    • Understand coolant purposes; monitor and address fluid reservoirs, lubrication points, and pneumatic lines.
    • Perform corrosion prevention and control.
  • Skill to troubleshoot, detect mechanical malfunctions, perform basic equipment repairs. Diagnose and service mechanical and electrical components: Sensors, encoders, spindle, pneumatic lines, etc.
  • Skill to detect non-conforming parts and determine adjustments within the equipment’s accepted operating parameters to ensure parts stay within given tolerances.
  • Keep inventory of parts for operation and maintenance of VMC equipment. Submit requests and coordinate with procurement to ensure all tooling and spare parts are acquired.
  • Experience operating CNC vertical milling or CAM software, such as EluCAD, Mastercam or Autodesk Fusion 360. Ability to create/program machining tool paths, plunge depths, feed rates, and correlate available tooling to required machining processes to produce quality parts and generate post process programs.
  • Knowledge and experience processing different material types and grades, i.e., carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (6061/5052, etc.,).
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments i.e. calipers, indicators, and scales.
  • Knowledge of common electric/pneumatic power tools and their safe operation.
  • Knowledge of common processing tools and material handling equipment related to material processing:
    • Shear, Punch/Ironworker, Overhead Cranes, Forklifts/Pallet Jacks
  • Knowledge of fabrication tools and methods for preventative maintenance and repair prefered:
    • Manual mill, manual lathe, press break, and sunrise/ironworker.
  • Ability to receive, understand and execute specific instructions to completion.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and written work instructions
  • Comprehend design intent, interpret dimensions, material types, and material grades on cut lists or drawings.
  • Ability to complete material related paperwork, document daily equipment runtime, and record equipment related notes.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ability to communicate in English required, both written & verbal skills.
  • Position requires work in an open machine & fabrication shop production area.  Must have the ability to walk long distances, ascend/descend stairs & stand for long periods of time within a noisy shop environment with fluctuating temperatures/humidity.  Personal Protection Equipment is required in all fabrication shop areas.  Position requires ability to safely lift and handle up to 50 lbs.

Education & Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
  • Certifications: Documented training certification(s) for operating and maintaining CNC vertical milling/profile machining equipment; Brand specific certification(s) not needed, but documented experience and knowledge must be applicable to VMC equipment.
  • Experience: (2+) years operating and maintaining CNC vertical milling equipment. Specifically, the processing of aluminum and steel wrought alloy tubes and channels of various thicknesses and material grades.
  • (2+) years Fanuc controls experience.
  • Pervious CNC Service/Maintenance Technician experience preferred.
  • Compensation based on experience. Range $18.00-$26.00 per hour

The Structural MIG Fitter/Welder will Perform the operations of fitting, GMAW aluminum welding, brazing, and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment and accurately read drawings.   As part of the Fabrication Team, this position plays an important part in producing platform components, while ensuring proper form, fit & function of an overall quality product.  Prior aluminum welding experience required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass 2G aluminum plate test using GMAW.
  • Ability to read and operate a tape measure, square, and angle finder.
  • Ability to figure angle/pitch from rise & run; basic understanding of angles.
  • Knowledge of common electric/pneumatic power tools and their safe operation:
    • Drills
    • Angle Grinders
    • Die Grinders

  • Knowledge of common processing tools and material handling equipment related to metal fabrication:

As the Manufacturing Engineer with FlexDecks, Inc., you will work with the team of project managers and designers to effectively communicate the product design to the manufacturing floor and ensure it is fabricated efficiently, safely, and with the highest standard of quality. This position will require significant time on the production floor and will gain experience in several areas of manufacturing including but not limited too; process development/improvement, project management, quality assurance, prototyping, CNC programming and operation, and heavy equipment maintenance.

  • Develop familiarity with FlexDecks equipment maintenance program and work with operators to effectively maintain heavy industrial equipment.
  • Assist operators with complex programming, fixturing, tooling & operating in times of need.
  • Maintain and repair fabrication equipment when necessary.

The Shop Assembler/Installer Assistant will help in performing advanced assembly of maintenance platform components according to specific instructions and established procedures ensuring proper form, fit, function, and overall product quality. This individual is expected to assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and hydraulic systems.  This individual also will provide direct and in-direct support to the installation teams, as well as be willing to travel & perform onsite field assemblies if needed.

  • Digest basic prints, work orders, material processing lists and general assembly drawings or document packages to determine critical aspects of design intent.
  • Assist with product verification testing and record results.
  • Receive, unload, unpack, and transfer work material to and from appropriate workstations.
  • Accurately pull and stage hardware for projects.
  • Basic electrical experience & ability to install electrical systems.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area. Keep track of material and keep work area organized.
  • Organize, pack and load finished product in various environmental contexts.
  • Job-site experience interacting with customers / end-users through conducting product specific operator briefs, supporting user training and maintenance best practices preferred.
  • Willing to travel for onsite installations/assemblies (50%+ travel & over weekend travel possible) if needed.
  • Willing to work possible overtime & weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to accept and receive supervision, training, and assistance regarding equipment operation and preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge & use of common material handling and rigging equipment and their safe operation:
    • Forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet-jacks, basic safety equipment
  • Knowledge & use of common power tools and their safe operation:
    • Metal working/beveling tools, abrasive cleaning tools, angle grinders, hand drills, impacts, wrenches, etc.
  • Knowledge & use of common industrial processing tools/types and their safe operation:
    • Band saw, table saw, miter saw, drill press, manual mill/lathe, Ironworker – notching and punching
  • Knowledge and experience processing different material types and grades desirable but not required, i.e., carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (6061 / 5052, etc.).
  • Ability to identify structural materials such as channel, I-beam, flat bar, etc.
  • Ability to read and operate a tape measure, square, and angle finder.
  • Knowledge of basic to average math; fractions, decimals, measurement conversion, geometry

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Familiarize and understand all FlexDecks employment policies such as work hours / days, quality standards, drug screening, safety guidelines, and all policies outlining employee behavior at FlexDecks facility.
  • Familiarize, understand, and use all standard operating procedures determined by FlexDecks and equipment manufacturers in relation to use of fabrication equipment.
  • Ensure that product standards, both quality and quantity are met.
  • Interpret dimensions, material types, and material grades on cut lists or drawings.
  • Identify FlexDecks tolerancing system on work orders / drawings and understand how tolerance system affects dimensions, material types, and material grades.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety measures when working in the shop and with machines / power tools.
  • Provide a positive attitude and further develop and maintain a cohesive team-oriented work environment with all employees, vendors, and customers, and support the company in all decisions.
  • May be asked by management to perform other tasks beyond those listed and meet expectation to support the company in all decisions. 

Education & Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
  • Experience: One plus (1+) year(s) experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Mechanical, technical, construction, and/or job-site experience interacting with customers / end-users through conducting product specific operator briefs supporting user training and maintenance best practices
    • Background in construction, carpentry or manufacturing preferred.
    • Veterans and retired military highly preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Compensation range is $13.00 – $15.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Willing to travel if needed.
  • Possess a passport with a minimum of 6-month validity remaining or willing to obtain a passport if needed to travel.

As a Shop/Assebly Tech Intern, this position will provide needed assistance to both the Assembly/Install Team and Fabrication Team in the production & assembly of maintenance platform components ensuring proper form, fit & function of an overall quality product. The Shop/Assebly Tech Intern will provide direct and in-direct support as part of the Assembly/Install Team and Fabrication Team in the fabrication shop, as well as perform field assemblies as needed.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Assembly/Install Team in the assembly and disassembly of maintenance platforms.
  • Ability to read & understand engineer drawinings and perform component assembly according to those drawings prefered.
  • Receive, unload, unpack, and transfer work material to and from appropriate work stations.
  • Willing to travel for onsite installations/assemblies (50%+ travel & over weekend travel possible).
  • Willing to work possible overtime & weekends.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area.
  • Keep track of material and keep work area organized.
  • Accurately pull and stage hardware for projects.
  • Willingness to learn machine/equipment operation, safety and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate in English required, both written & verbal skills.
